Softball Weekly Release - Week 2

PRINCETON, N.J. -- With seven of the eight Ivy League softball teams opening their seasons, the League came away with 16 wins in the first 10 days of competition.

Dartmouth, the first to open the season, is 5-3 after tournament weekends in Deland, Fla. and Washington, D.C. Princeton went 3-2 this past weekend in Jacksonville at North Florida's tourney.

Yale is the lone team yet to open its season. The Bulldogs are slated to play at Central Connecticut on Tuesday.

CO-PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Princeton sophomore infielder Alyssa Schmidt (Rocklin, Calif.) hit .526 in her five games at the Osprey Classic this past weekend. She was 10-for-19 with three three-hit games. Schmidt had a .526 on-base percentage and a .684 slugging percentage. She also fielded 17 of 17 chances.

Cornell sophomore outfielder Linda Laeufer (Pickerington, Ohio) hit .545 with a double and a home run in Cornell's 2-2 weekend at the George Mason Tournament. Laeufer was 6-for-11 on the weekend with two runs scored and three RBI. She had a .583 on-bast pct and a .909 slugging percentage in the four contests. She had two hits in three of the four games.

CO-PITCHERS OF THE WEEK
Princeton freshman Shanna Christian (Parker, Colo.) made the most of her first collegiate appearance and her first collegiate start. Christian shut down Delaware State over the final 2-1/3 in her first appearance to earn the win and followed that up later in the day with a one-hitter against the Hornets as Princeton won 3-0. Christian allowed only a lead-off single, walking three and striking out five. In fact, for her 9-1/3 innings of work on the day, that was the only hit she allowed.

Dartmouth sophomore Kristen Rumley (Katy, Texas) earned a win and a save over the weekend at the George Washington Tournament to continue her strong start. Rumley fired a complete game win over George Washington with eight strikeouts, then had a strong relief appearance against Seton Hall, allowing one run in five innings of work. She closed out her weekend with a one-inning save against GW. For the season, Rumley is 4-1 with three complete games and a 2.00 ERA, striking out 31 and walking seven in 35 innings of work.
