Three Ivy League Women's Cross Country Runners Earn All-American Status
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Three Ivy League
women’s cross country runners earned United States Track
& Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA)
All-America status after finishing among the top-40 in the 2011
NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, Monday in Terre Haute,
Ind.
Dartmouth sophomore Abbey D’Agostino led
the way by placing third overall with a time of 19:42.9.
D'Agostino's third-place finish is the best in school history for
either the men or the women. The previous Dartmouth record at the
NCAA Championships was a fourth-place finish by Bob Kampainen in
1986.
Princeton senior Alex Banfich also set a program
record by taking fifth with a time of 19:45.0, the highest finish
by an individual in program history, beating Cack
Ferrell’s 10th-place win in 2005. Tigers junior
Alexis Mikaelian competed in the race as well and recorded a time
of 22:16.0.
Columbia freshman Waverly Neer joined
D’Agostino and Banfich as an All-American. Neer placed 40th
by just under a second. She was the top first-year finisher in the
NCAA's 254-runner field.
Villanova’s Sheila Reid took the individual title with a
time of 19:42 while Georgetown won the National Championship with
162 points, besting Washington (170) and Villanova (181).
