XC Heps Returns to Van Cortlandt on Friday

PRINCETON, N.J. — The 2009 Ivy League Heptagonal Cross Country Championships return to New York City's Van Cortlandt Park this Friday, October 30, for the 61st time in the last 62 years.

The women will be up first, with their 5,000-meter race starting at 11:15 am, while the men's 5-mile race is slated to begin an hour later at 12:15 pm. The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place at 1:00 pm.

The park grounds are currently undergoing a series of renovations and this year's course will see significant changes. See the updated course map below for more details

DIRECTIONS TO VAN CORTLANDT PARK

From the South:
Take Major Deegan Expressway (I-87) North, and proceed to the Van Cortlandt Park South Exit (Exit 11). Bear right and go back over the Expressway toward Broadway. Make a right at Broadway. The Park will be on your right. The baseball field will be approximately 1/8 of a mile in from the first traffic light (no cars are permitted - you must walk). The cross country course will be approximately 1/4 of a mile further along Broadway.

From the North:
The New York State Thruway South (I-87) becomes the Major Deegan Expressway when entering the Bronx. Continue south to Van Cortlandt Park South Exit (Exit 11). Turn right at top of ramp then right onto Broadway. The Park will be on your right. The baseball field will be approximately 1/8 of a mile in from the first traffic light (no cars are permitted- you must walk). The cross country course will be approximately 1/4 of a mile further along Broadway.

From the East Bronx:
Whitestone or Throgs Neck Bridge to Cross Bronx Expressway South (I-95). Take Major Deegan Expressway North (I-87) to Van Cortlandt Park South Exit (Exit 11). Bear right, going back over the Expressway, and make a right onto Broadway. The Park will be on your right. The baseball field will be approximately 1/8 of a mile in from the first traffic light (no cars are permitted- you must walk). The cross country course will be approximately 1/4 of a mile further along Broadway.

From the West:
George Washington Bridge - Follow signs to Major Deegan Expressway (I-87) North. Take to Van Cortlandt Park South Exit (Exit 11). Bear right, going back over the Expressway, and make a right onto Broadway. The Park will be on your right. The baseball field will be approximately 1/8 of a mile in from the first traffic light (no cars are permitted- you must walk). The cross country course will be approximately 1/4 of a mile further along Broadway.

Mass Transit:
Take the 1 train uptown until the end (the Van Cortlandt Park stop) and walk a few blocks north to the grounds.
