Women's Indoor Track and Field Update 2

PRINCETON, N.J. -- All eight teams were in action
this past weekend, highlighted by first-place finishes by Brown,
Columbia and Cornell in the Joe Donahue Collegiate Indoor Games,
Metropolitan Indoor Track & Field Championships and Saturday
Night at the Armory II, respectively.
The Ivy League will be in action this weekend as Harvard will hold
the Battle for Beantown and Yale will host its annual Giegengack
Invitational. The Ancient Eight are gearing up for the Ivy League
Heptagonal Indoor Championships, which will take place on
Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 25-26, at Barton Hall in Ithaca, N.Y.
Here is a team-by-team look at the Ivy League from this past
weekend:
Brown
Brown captured the team title with 118.33 points at the Joe
Donahue Collegiate Indoor Games hosted at Northeastern's Reggie
Lewis Center. The Bears held off the host team to win by 5.5
points. Freshman Lauren Waterbury claimed the 200m
dash title by running the race in 25.20 seconds and junior
Bree Shugarts captured the one-mile race in
4:55.60. Brown took 1-2 in the 3,000m as sophomore Heidi
Caldwell won with a time of 9:41.84 and fellow classmate
Margaret Connelly was close behind at 9:52.04.
Senior Susan Scavone took first in the 55m hurdles
after crossing the line in 8.04.
Next event: Saturday, Feb. 4 at the Tribute to
Charles Torpey in Kingston, R.I.
Columbia
The Lions claimed their first Metropolitan Indoor Track &
Field Championships title. Columbia totaled 156 team points in the
event, which was held in the Armory in New York. The women's
distance runners had a big night as freshman Waverly
Neer won the 1,000m in a time of 2:52.52, junior
Emily Lanois won the one-mile run in 4:52.47 and
freshman Aryn Foland took home the 3,000m crown
with a time of 10:00.99. The Lions also won the 4 x 800m relay with
a time of 9:14.39, a good three seconds ahead the field. Senior
Kyra Caldwell won the 60m hurdles in a time of
8.64. In the jumping events, senior Monique
Roberts won the high jump, clearing 1.76m, and freshman
Nadia Eke took the triple-jump title with a leap
of 12.58m.
Next event: Friday-Saturday, Feb. 3-4 at the New
Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York
Cornell
The Big Red took the team title in the Saturday Night at the
Armory II in New York. Cornell earned 158.5 points to best
second-place Princeton by more than 20 points. Senior
Melissa Hewitt won the 200m with an
ECAC-qualifying 24.69 and the Big Red saw four athletes qualify for
ECAC’s in the 1,000m, led by junior Alyssa
O’Connor’s first-place run of 2:50.68. Junior
Victoria Imbesi broke her own school-record in the
shot put with a throw of 48 ¾, marking the third time this
season she has passed 48 feet. Big Red individuals also competed in
the Terrier Classic in Boston and junior Katie
Kellner placed third in the 5,000m with a time of
16:11.38, currently the second-best time in the NCAA this season
and second only hall of famer Pam Hunt in Cornell
history.

Challenge in University Park, Pa.
Dartmouth:
The Big Green competed in the Terrier Invitational at Boston
University and sophomore Abbey D’Agostino
broke a record she set just last week, winning the mile in 4:37.41,
a full second faster than her previous best. D’Agostino has
the first and second-best mile times in the NCAA this season.
Junior Emmaline Berg claimed the top spot in the
shot put with a throw of 14.25m (46-9), almost five inches further
than the second-place finisher.
Next event: Friday-Saturday, Feb. 3-4 at the New
Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York
Harvard:
The Crimson competed in the Saturday Night at the Armory II in New
York, finishing fourth with 99 points, behind Cornell (158.5),
Princeton (133.5) and Maryland (108.5). Senior Meg
Looney's time of 2:10.02 in the 800m was the fastest of
the meet and ranks seventh all-time in Harvard history. Sophomore
Alaina Murphy captured the mile in a personal-best
time of 4:53.84. The rookie duo of Erika Veidis
(1:14.59) and Molly Renfer (1:15.13) placed fourth
and fifth in the race and set the fourth- and sixth-best times in
the event in Harvard annals, respectively.
Next event: Friday, Feb. 3 with the Battle of
Beantown in Boston
Penn:
The Quakers took part in two events, the Penn State National and
Navy’s Wesley A. Brown Invitational. Senior Victoria
Strickland won the 500m in the PSU Invitational with a
time of 1:14.26, qualifying for ECAC's with the third-best time in
school history. The team also qualified for ECAC’s in the
5,000m and the 4x800 relay. In the Navy Invitational, Penn took
four of the top five spots in the 60m, led by junior Nony
Onyeador’s first-place finish in 7.89. Junior
Amber Scott ran the 60m hurdles in 9.28 to place
first and freshman Heather Bong won the 200m at
25.66.
Next event: Friday-Saturday, Feb. 3-4 at the New
Balance Invitational in New York
Princeton:
The Tigers took second in the Saturday Night at the Armory II in
New York with 133.5 points, trailing only Cornell (158.5). Senior
Eileen Moran won at 60m with a time of 7.62 and
sophomore Abby Levene set a personal-best in the
3,000m by crossing the line in 9:43.61. Princeton went 1-2 in the
pole vault, led by junior Tory Worthen’s
3.9m, while sophomore Imani Oliver won the triple
jump with a mark of 12.42m. Princeton also took the 4x400 relay
title with a time of 3.46.12.
Next event: Saturday, Feb. 4 at the Sykes-Sabock
Challenge in University Park, Pa.
Yale:
The Bulldogs competed in the Terrier Invitational in Boston. Yale
was led by a pair of second-place finishers in senior Alexa
Monti (60m dash) and junior Nihal Kayali
(1,000m). Monti set a season-best with a time of 7.78 in the
finals, while Kayali crossed the line in 2:49.67, a mere .19
seconds behind the winner. Sophomore Annelies
Gamble placed fourth in the 800m with a 2:10.98, a
season-best for her and just a half a second off of her Yale
record.
Next event: Friday-Saturday, Feb. 3-4 with the
Giegengack Invitational in New Haven, Conn.
