HANOVER, N.H. -- Freshman Gina Kennedy and junior Alyssa Mehta were the last players left standing in their divisions at the CSA Individual Championships at Dartmouth this weekend. Kennedy won the Ramsay Cup, earning the women's individual national title, and Mehta was crowned the Holleran South champion to conclude action for the 2016-17 season.
Kennedy battled Penn's Reeham Sedky in the Ramsay Cup final, earning 11-9 and 13-11 decisions to take a 2-0 lead. After Sedky took the third game, 11-9, Kennedy notched an 11-7 win in the fourth game to take home the individual national championship. The freshman became the first Harvard player to win the trophy since Amanda Sobhy '15 collected the fourth Ramsay Cup of her career in 2015.
Kennedy was impressive throughout the top division's bracket, earning three victories over Cornell's Michele Garceau, Lucy Beecroft of Yale and Penn's Marie Stephan to get to the final match. She finished 14-2 during her rookie campgain in individual play.
Mehta became the Holleran South champion after defeating Zandra Ho of Stanford in the finals. Mehta rolled to a 3-0 win over Ho, marking her third consecutive sweep in the bracket. She was dominant throughout the match, winning 11-3, 11-6 and 11-5.
Mehta opened the tournament by defeating her teammate Eleonore Evans, 3-0, in the quarterfinals after earning a bye in the first round. She then went on to sweep Princeton's Gabrielle Garr to clinch a spot in the championship match. Mehta posted an unblemished 17-0 record in individual action for the Crimson this season.
Kennedy and Meta helped the Crimson women's team to a perfect 15-0 season, including its second-straight Ivy League title and third consecutive national championship.
