Round 1 Interviews: Penn's Max Marsico & P.J. Fielding | Penn Head Coach Bob Heintz

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Penn junior Max Marsico shot five-under for the first 13 holes to set the pace for his teammates as the Quakers carded an opening round 292 to hold a six-shot lead after the opening round at the 2013 Ivy League Men's Golf Championship at Caves Valley Golf Club.

Marsico finished the day with an opening round 68 to take the individual lead. Marsico's two-under par round was three shots better than a trio of golfers, including teammate senior P.J. Fielding. Princeton junior Greg Jarmas and Yale junior Sam Bernstein also carded opening rounds of 71. Harvard's Un Cho and Dartmouth's James Pleat are tied for fifth, five shots off the lead.

Princeton is second in the team standings at 298, six shots behind the Quakers. Columbia and Yale are tied for third, while Harvard and Dartmouth are tied for fifth, followed by Cornell and Brown.

Marsico birdied hole Nos. 1, 2 and 4 to get off to a strong start. After a bogey on No. 5, he recorded three-straight pars and then closed out his front side with a birdie at No. 9. Birdies on Nos. 11 and 13 moved him to five-under par. However, as most did on Friday, Marsico bogeyed Nos. 15, 17 and 18 to finish his day at two-under par.

Fielding had the steadiest round of the day, with 15 pars in his round. His lone exceptions were bogeys on Nos. 1 and 5 and a birdie at No. 11. Jarmas had 14 pars to pace the Tigers. Unfortunately, a double-bogey at No. 13 erased consecutive birdies on Nos. 5 and 6. Bernstein also had a double-bogey at No. 13 -- his coming early in the round as he began on the back side. But he rallied with three birdies on his second nine to card a 33 on the front side and finish his day one-over par and three shots off the pace.

Saturday's second round gets underway at 12:30 p.m. Live scoring will be available at
