PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Ivy men’s golf teams from Columbia, Cornell, Brown and Penn combined to take part in three tournaments last week, with the Lions finishing second at the Cornell Invitational.

The Big Red played host to the Cornell Invitational on Sept. 24 and 25 in Ithaca, N.Y., welcoming in 12 other teams, including Columbia, for the three-round tournament that was played on the par 72, 6890-yard Robert Trent Jones Course. The Lions shot an 874 (287-291-296) to finish second, just three shots adrift of Binghamton. The Big Red tied for eighth (306-304-305--915). On the individual leader board, Columbia’s Sam Mysock, playing as an individual, tied for second by shooting an even-par 216 (68-76-72) to lead the Ivy contingent. All told, Columbia and Cornell combined to place six golfers in the top-20.

Elsewhere, freshman Justin Miller (71-75-72--218) placed 11th individually to help Brown to a ninth place finish at the Hartford Hawk Invitational. The two-day tournament was played on Sept. 26 and 27 at the par 72, 6992-yard Bulls Ridge Golf Club in South Kent, Conn.

On Sept. 26 Penn finished third at its 2011 Rehoboth Beach Fall Invitational, a 36-hole event played at the par-71, 6480-yard Kings Creek CC in Rehoboth Beach, Del. Sophomore Marco Fortades, who was playing as an individual, shot a minus-three 139 (68-71) to tie for the individual title in the 56-player field.
