PRINCETON, N.J. -- All eight Ivy League men’s golf teams will close out their fall seasons this weekend at the Northeast Invitational, taking place on Oct. 16 and 17 at the Shelter Harbor Country Club in Westerly, R.I. The Univ. of Rhode Island-hosted event will serve as a spring season preview, as all eight teams will meet again at the 2011 Ivy League Men’s Golf Championship on April 22-24 at the Galloway National Golf Course in Galloway, N.J.

RECENT RESULTS
Seven Ivy League men’s golf teams played in the Big Five Classic in Plymouth Meeting, Pa. on Oct. 9 and 10. Princeton led the Ivy contingent, finishing in a tie for third (289-294--583), one shot out of second place and nine shots behind first place Furman. Yale finished five shots behind Princeton to tie for fifth (293-294--587). Penn tied for ninth (301-292--593), while Harvard (299-298--597) and Dartmouth (296-301--597) tied for 12th. Rounding out the scores for the Ivies, Brown placed 16th (310-306--616) and Cornell finished 18th (313-305--618) in the 21-team field.

Aside from having five teams finish in the top-12, six Ivy players cracked the top-12 on the individual leader board of 111 players, led by Harvard’s Seiji Liu. Liu entered the final round of play in 13th, but fired a 69 to finish tied for third (72-69-141). Princeton’s Bernie D’Amato (70-72--142) was one of four players to tie for fifth. D’Amato was joined in fifth by Dartmouth’s Peter Williamson (68-74--142) and Penn’s Colin St. Maxens (73-69--142). Sam Bernstein and Tom McCarthy led Yale, as Bernstein finished tied for ninth (75-68--143) and McCarthy placed in a tie for 12th (69-75--144).

Columbia finished eighth of 14 teams at William & Mary’s Joe Agee Invitational in Williamsburg, Va., which concluded play on Oct. 10 at the Colonial Heritage Club. The Lions shaved four strokes off their first-round score to earn the eighth-place showing (302-298--600). Jordan Lee led the way, shooting a team-best 73 on the final day of competition on his way to placing tied for seventh (71- 73--144).

After playing in the Big Five Classic, Brown returned to New England to take part in the Connecticut Cup on Oct. 11 and 12 at the Ellington Ridge CC in Ellington, Conn. The Bears finished tenth (312-310-308--930) at the three-round tournament, which was hosted by UConn and included 12 teams. Peter Callas tied for 21st to lead the Bears (79-77-74--230).
