Men’s Golf Fall Update 3

PRINCETON, N.J. – All eight Ivy League men's golf teams will be in action in the coming days, highlighted by seven Ivy teams teeing it up at the Big Five Classic in Plymouth Meeting, Pa. on Oct. 9 and 10. The teams headed to the Plymouth Country Club include Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Penn, Princeton and Yale.

Columbia will take part in the William & Mary Invitational in Williamsburg, Va. on Oct. 9 and 10 at Colonial Heritage. Brown will have a quick turnaround after The Big Five Classic, as it will play in the Connecticut Cup on Oct. 11 and 12 at the Ellington Ridge CC in Ellington, Conn.  

The Columbia men's golf team finished second among 14 teams at the 2010 Big Red Fall Invitational on Sept. 25 and 26 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course (295-290-296--881). Columbia finished 13 shots behind the winners from Binghamton. Jordan Lee led the Lions with a fifth place showing (71-71-75--217). Michael Yiu also turned in a top-10 finish as he tied for eighth (76-70-74--220). The Hosts from Cornell finished fifth (292-300-302--894). John Dean tied for eighth (73-72-75--220). He led three Cornellians in the top-20, as Matt Jaye was 18th and Max Koehler placed 19th.

In an event that was cut from 36 holes to 18 due to inclement weather, the Penn men's golf team hosted and finished second at the Rehoboth Beach Fall Invitational on Sept. 27 at Kings Creek. The Quakers carded a 295 to finish behind Maryland (281). Freshman Max Marsico posted his second straight runner-up finish for Penn, carding a 70 to finish one shot behind Maryland's John Popek and tied with two others. Kevin Huntington, Colin St. Maxens and Dillon Hakes all shot 75 to tie for 16th and round out the scoring for the Quakers.

Dartmouth and Harvard joined Yale to comprise three of the 13 teams competing at the 2010 MacDonald Cup, which was played on the Golf Course at Yale on Oct. 4 and 5. Yale finished second overall with a 20-over par mark (291-289--580), 15-strokes behind the winners from St. John's. Dartmouth finished tied for fifth (295-292--587) to edge seventh place Harvard by a stroke (290-298--588).  

The best individual Ivy finisher at the MacDonald Cup was Harvard's Theodore Lederhausen, who placed fifth (69-71--140) with an even-par showing. Dartmouth's Peter Williamson finished tied for seventh at two-over par (73-69--142). Yale's Bradley Kushner finished tied for 10th at three-over par (71-72--143) to lead the Bulldogs.

Evan Harmeling paced Princeton at the two-day, three-round Windon Memorial hosted by Northwestern that wrapped up play on Sept. 27 at the North Shore Golf Club in Glenview, Ill. As a team, the Tigers placed 16th (301-307-298--906) in a challenging field. Harmeling carded an eight-over par to tie for 40th (77-75-69--221).
