Title IX 40 for 40: Caroline Salisbury

Caroline Salisbury is a rising senior on the Cornell women’s lacrosse team. She finished with 62 points on 44 goals and 18 assists in 2012.
 
What impact has Title IX had on you/college athletics?
Salisbury: Title IX has made it possible for me to play college sports at such a competitive level. I have learned so much from playing college sports and have had a great experience, and I am so thankful that Title IX helped to make that possible.
 
What effects will Title IX have for the younger generation?
Salisbury: More and more opportunities keep developing for women in sports, and so for the younger generation, it gives them great opportunities to compete in the sports they love at high levels.

How did Title IX help to change the perception of women in athletics?
Salisbury: It helped cause a shift from women in sports being an abnormality to it being encouraged and supported.
 
Who was an influential woman in athletics to you and why?
Salisbury: My Mom. She always valued athletics, and she was the one who introduced me to the sport of lacrosse and helped start and coach my first lacrosse team.
